The Department of Defense (DoD) recently issued an interpretive rule to assist the industry with its final rule implementing the Military Lending Act (MLA), which extended the MLA's 36 percent interest cap and other restrictions to a host of consumer financial products.

Auto sales finance companies and banks may be covered by the MLA. As a result of a confusing aspect of the interpretive rule, there is an issue as to whether the exemption for auto finance applies in all circumstances. At our webinar we will discuss this issue in detail.

Topics will include:

  • A review of the DoD's interpretive guidance;

  • Lingering questions and concerns with the final rule, which requires compliance by October 3, 2016;

  • The interplay between the final rule and state antidiscrimination laws; and

  • Compliance strategies.
