With over four decades of experience as a business leader, entrepreneur, and public servant, Secretary Mike Gill was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan in January 2015 to lead the Maryland Department of Commerce. Formerly known as the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), the Department of Commerce focuses on attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses and creating jobs in Maryland. As the state’s primary economic development agency, the Department has assisted nearly 4,000 small businesses and organizations, helped create or retain 40,000 jobs, and leveraged nearly $3 billion in private investment since 2010.
