Although christened the Bureau of CONSUMER Financial Protection, this name is a bit of a misnomer since Dodd-Frank also provides the Bureau with regulatory, supervisory, and enforcement authority over certain small business transactions and certain aspects of small business and commercial lending. Dodd-Frank also authorizes the agency to determine when a transaction with a small business should be treated as a consumer transaction. Since the CFPB has been vocal about its plans to protect small businesses and women and minority-owned businesses, it is essential for the financial services industry to understand the nature and scope of the agency’s jurisdiction.

In this webinar, we will explore the CFPB’s jurisdiction and discuss, among other topics, the extent to which the agency might bring UDAAP concepts to bear on certain aspects of small business and commercial lending.
