The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recently issued Bulletin 2013-09 to companies that furnish information to consumer reporting agencies (CRA). The bulletin reminds them of their obligation under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) to investigate consumer disputes forwarded by a CRA and “review all relevant information” relating to the dispute. In the bulletin, the CFPB outlines what it generally expects furnishers to do to comply with these obligations.

To help furnishers understand the CFPB's expectations, the topics addressed by our webinar presenters will include the following:

  • What a furnisher needs to do to meet the CFPB's expectations
  • How the CFPB's expectations add significant gloss to the FCRA's furnisher provisions and exceed the standards that numerous courts have mandated
  • What the CFPB will be looking for in examinations
  • Enforcement and private litigation risks to furnishers
