In this program, we will discuss both the immediate impact and longer-term implications of the Affordable Care Act. Employers and HR professionals will gain an understanding of how the Affordable Care Act affects their organization, the opportunities it presents, and the new requirements with which they may need to comply.

Immediate issues in 2013 include new limits for health care flexible spending accounts, new (and significant) administrative fees payable by health plans to the federal government, preparation and distribution of employee notices, and permitted uses of medical loss ratio (MLR) rebates from insurance companies.

In addition, employers that provide health benefits to employees should consider whether it makes sense strategically to continue offering group health plan coverage to employees in 2014 and beyond, and/or to modify their workforces to make greater use of independent contractors. Employers that continue to provide coverage to employees will need to ensure that the coverage is sufficient and affordable. The Affordable Care Act contains a dizzying array of financial incentives and penalties that are relevant to an employer’s choice. Our program will help employers identify the relevant issues and begin to take steps to address the new requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
