In the wake of a recent SamSam ransomware attack on Atlanta municipal computer systems that knocked out several city services, other companies and communities are advised to shore up vulnerable systems and develop a cyberattack recovery plan.

"The fact that this doesn't happen more frequently or hasn't yet happened is actually more surprising than the fact that Atlanta was crippled this way," said Edward J. McAndrew, Co-Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr's Privacy and Data Security Group and the Leader of its national Cyber Incident Response Team.
