Laura L. Seidel, who advises major players in the real estate economy nationwide on matters involving secured lending and commercial real estate, has joined Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Department as a partner in the Atlanta office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.

Before joining Ballard Spahr, Ms. Seidel was a partner in the Atlanta office of Womble Carlyle, where she practiced for more than 17 years. Ms. Seidel has significant experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing loan transactions, in handling real estate leasing matters, and in the acquisition and disposition of all classes of property. She also represents master and special servicers of commercial mortgage loans involving, particularly, loan defeasances, restructurings, and workouts.

“Laura adds an important new dimension to the services we are able to offer clients from our growing base in the South,” Mr. Stewart said. “Her work complements that of our other Atlanta attorneys and she will be a dynamic presence as we continue our expansion.”

“Laura’s experience handling very large and complex commercial real estate transactions makes her a valuable asset,” said Bart I. Mellits, Chair of Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Department. “In addition, Ballard handles a significant number of transactions in the Southeast, particularly in Florida and Georgia, where Laura is licensed to practice. The combination of her skill, experience, and geography makes her a perfect fit. We are absolutely delighted to have her on board.”

Ms. Seidel’s clients include leading national financial institutions, insurance companies, medical groups, and a major airport concessionaire. At Ballard Spahr, she will be a member of the firm’s Real Estate Finance and Capital Markets Group and also its Leasing and Mortgage Banking Groups.

Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Department is consistently named one of the best in the nation, including being ranked in the highest tier nationally for real estate law by U.S. News and World Report this year. The attorneys in its Real Estate Finance and Capital Markets Group have played pivotal roles in developing, structuring, and negotiating an impressive range of complex, high-profile real estate transactions.

“Ballard Spahr’s national footprint and reputation for excellence in real estate provide a perfect platform for me to further develop my practice,” said Ms. Seidel. “I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues and growing the Atlanta office.”
