Emilie R. Ninan, Managing Partner of Ballard Spahr's Wilmington office, has been named a Fellow of the American Bar Association Law Practice Division. Ms. Ninan is the partner in charge of Ballard Spahr's public finance practice in Delaware and is the immediate past President of the North American South Asian Bar Association.

The ABA's Law Practice Division focuses on the business of practicing law, an area critical to the success of every lawyer and of particular interest to Ms. Ninan, who earned an M.B.A. along with her law degree. As a Fellow, Ms. Ninan will contribute to the substantive work of the Division, which investigates, evaluates, develops, and disseminates information and techniques that help make lawyers and legal professionals more effective, competent, ethical, and responsive to the needs of clients and the public.

The Division also offers cutting-edge information and resources related to the core areas of marketing, management, technology, and finance. Ms. Ninan’s management and leadership experience both in a law firm and with a national affinity bar organization was noted by the Division as a factor for choosing her as a Fellow through its competitive selection process.

At Ballard Spahr, Ms. Ninan works with governmental, quasi-governmental, and private entities, including 501(c)(3) institutions, to obtain lower-cost capital financing through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds. She has served as bond counsel, underwriter's counsel, borrower's counsel, issuer's counsel, or bank's counsel on a variety of municipal bond financings, including general obligation, revenue, health care, economic development, housing, cultural institution, and educational facility bond transactions. Ms. Ninan has advised each of the counties and a majority of the municipalities, hospitals, and institutions of higher education in the State of Delaware on capital financing matters.
