Six Ballard Spahr intellectual property attorneys have been honored as “IP Stars” by Managing Intellectual Property magazine for their skill in identifying, securing, and protecting clients’ innovations. The designation is part of a new state-by-state analysis of the IP market that is included in the magazine’s annual World IP Handbook and Survey.

Ballard Spahr was highly recommended in Georgia and recommended in Pennsylvania. The IP attorneys honored are William H. Needle, Lawrence K. Nodine, and Mitchell A. Katz in the firm’s Atlanta office, and Robert R. Baron, Jr., and Hara K. Jacobs in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

“Our intellectual property attorneys are leaders in the field, both nationally and internationally, and they understand that our clients’ IP rights are some of their most valuable assets,” said Mr. Katz, Chair of the Intellectual Property Department. “I’m thrilled that both the firm and a number of our IP attorneys are being recognized, and I’m humbled to be among the honorees.”

The intellectual property attorneys at Ballard Spahr help clients analyze, obtain, and protect their IP assets. They develop and manage patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios; handle licensing and other transactional matters; and protect patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

The Ballard Spahr attorneys honored as “IP Stars” represent clients in intellectual property prosecution and litigation, serve as arbitrators and mediators in disputes, and assist in the development and implementation of global branding and enforcement strategies. Their clients include chemical and pharmaceutical companies, universities, retailers, manufacturing companies, franchise systems and distributors, and charitable organizations.

The World IP Handbook and Survey covers more than 80 countries, with rankings based on extensive research conducted among IP practitioners over six months, starting in September 2012. The complete listing is available online at
