Ballard Spahr's CFPB Monitor, launched in 2011 to track the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has been awarded a spot on the ABA Journal's 6th Annual Blawg 100, a list of the best blogs about lawyers and the law.

ABA Journal Editor and Publisher Allen Pusey said the publication follows more than 3,500 blogs by lawyers, judges, law professors, and law students. CFPB Monitor is the only one on the top 100 list that focuses on the federal regulatory agency.

In announcing CFPB Monitor's inclusion on this year's list, Mr. Pusey emphasized the high-quality content the blog provides to the legal community. "Dozens of readers told us they find (the blog's) posts timely, insightful and informative about the changing legal and regulatory environment involving the financial services industry," he said.

One of those readers praised the blog for providing "timely and thoughtful commentary on the rapidly evolving actions of our newest financial regulator. Each press release from the regulatory agency seems to raise many new questions, and the (blog) does an admirable job" of addressing many of them.

Attorneys in Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group started CFPB Monitor on July 21, 2011, the same day the CFPB opened for business. Since then the blog has followed the Bureau's every move and analyzed its effect on the consumer financial services industry.

"Having CFPB Monitor included on this list shows that members of the industry are watching the Bureau closely and that they appreciate a reliable and accurate source of information about what the CFPB's actions mean to them," said Alan S. Kaplinsky, Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group. "Many of our readers have told us that we are one of the few trustworthy sources of CFPB commentary available, and this confirms that viewpoint."

The ABA Journal has included the complete Blawg 100 list in its December online issue and is inviting readers to vote for their favorites from each of the 14 categories. Voting will continue through December 21, and the winners will be announced by January 2, 2013.
