Jon M. Laria, Managing Partner of the Baltimore office of Ballard Spahr, was elected to the Greater Baltimore Committee Board of Directors at the organization’s annual meeting yesterday.

The Greater Baltimore Committee is composed of more than 500 businesses, nonprofit organizations, and educational and civic institutions in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties. The GBC brings together corporate and civic leaders to identify and nurture business development opportunities, and strengthen the region’s business, transportation, education, health care, and technology resources.

“The Baltimore region is a great place to live and work. Helping to spread that message far and wide is my privilege,” said Mr. Laria. “We need to be competitive in attracting new businesses and provide growth opportunities for those who are already here.”

Mr. Laria is a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Department. He represents owners, developers, and lenders in commercial real estate transactions, including development, finance, acquisition, and leasing. He also has an active land use and zoning practice, and has provided counsel for some of Baltimore’s most prominent development projects.

Mr. Laria chairs the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission, and previously was Co-Chair of Governor Martin O’Malley’s Housing and Community Development Transition Team and a member of the Governor’s Transition Steering Committee. He served as a Mayoral appointee on Baltimore’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Taxes and Fees, and he serves as an officer or member of many other civic boards and organizations, including the Urban Land Institute’s Baltimore District Council. Mr. Laria is a founder of the Baltimore Development Workgroup, an affinity group of development professionals who work on real estate development issues in the City of Baltimore.
