The Las Vegas office of Ballard Spahr has been named 2010 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by Nevada Legal Services. The firm is being honored for its pro bono work at the Tenant's Rights Center, for conducting small claims classes for indigents, for providing training to the Nevada Legal Services staff, and for assisting with the organization’s Indian Law Project.

Ballard Spahr will receive the award at the October 27 Champions of Justice Luncheon at the Springs Preserve, one of several events that will be held during Nevada's Celebrate Pro Bono Week.

"We appreciate the fact that a national firm like Ballard Spahr can draw on the experience of lawyers across the firm's range of practices," said AnnaMarie Johnson, Executive Director of Nevada Legal Services. "They've been more than willing to provide assistance to our clients on a variety of problems, some in very specialized areas."

Bill Curran, Managing Partner in Ballard Spahr's Las Vegas office, said the firm has a longstanding commitment to providing pro bono legal services to individuals and organizations in need. That commitment is embraced by all of the firm's lawyers, paralegals, and staff in every office and within every practice.

"We are very pleased to be recognized for our pro bono work," said Curran, who is a member of Ballard Spahr's national Pro Bono Committee. "We hope that our recognition will inspire other law firms to increase their commitment to providing access to justice to all Nevadans. We really want to thank Nevada Legal Services for providing us with the opportunity to make a difference in our community and state."

Ballard Spahr consistently ranks in the top tier in the AmLaw Pro Bono Survey and has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of its outstanding commitment to pro bono work. In 2009, Ballard Spahr lawyers devoted more than 38,000 hours of pro bono work nationally.
