Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP and Constitution High School will be honored for their pipeline program during the Best Practices Community Partnerships Celebration presented by the Philadelphia School District on May 15.

CHS is a magnet high school with an 85% minority student body and a focus on civic and legal education.  Ballard Spahr has played an active role at CHS since it first opened, providing both financial and extra-curricular support.  By teaming with the school, Ballard Spahr hopes to encourage students from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds to choose law as a career.  Lawyers at the firm coach the mock trial team, mentor a group of 30 aspiring lawyers, work with students on research projects, and escort small student groups to legal events and courtroom observation opportunities.  This year, the firm sponsored a trip by CHS's mock trial team to the National Mock Trial Competition and worked with an architect to design a mock trial room which will be installed in the school over the summer.  The firm also runs a job shadowing day for every 9th grade student and provides paid summer internships and other career exploration opportunities.
