After its recent merger with Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, Ballard Spahr’s media law practice has grown significantly. And although the former media boutique firm brought with it a national reputation and landmark case history, firm partners in Denver are providing expertise to local media outlets as well.

Ballard Spahr partner Steve Zansberg is currently handling cases for the Denver Post and the Colorado Independent. Both outlets filed petitions to obtain court records in two different cases.

Denver office managing partner Steve Suflas expects that over the next few years the firm will see more similar litigation involving these types of open records, Freedom of Information and Sunshine Act requests as well as libel and defamation suits.

“It appears we’re going to see the media being sued more frequently, so we’re viewing this as kind of a robust practice area for the foreseeable future,” Suflas said.
