California Extends Tax Deadlines Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

March 25, 2020

On March 18, 2020, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) further postponed its state tax filing and payment deadlines to July 15 for all individuals and business entities for 2019 tax returns and payments, 2020 first and second quarter estimated tax payments, 2020 LLC taxes and fees, and 2020 nonwage withholding payments (See news release here). The FTB previously extended the due dates for affected taxpayers until June 15. This announcement supersedes the prior extension.

Although the deadlines have been extended, the FTB is encouraging taxpayers who are able to file their returns electronically to do so as soon as possible to allow California to continue to process returns and pay refunds as quickly as possible.

We will continue to monitor California state tax developments. If you have questions, please contact a member of the Ballard Spahr LLP Tax Group.
