
John W. Devine is an experienced transactional attorney who concentrates his practice on private merger and acquisition transactions, including private equity and venture capital financing transactions, securities offerings and commercial licensing transactions, with concentrated experience in the health care industry. John is also the Co-Practice Leader of the firm's Health Care group.
John's transactional experience spans a variety of industries including the health care, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, light manufacturing, consumer products, consulting services, and food and beverage industries. Since 2008, John has focused on advising clients within the health care industry on regulatory and strategic transaction matters. In this capacity, he has advised hospitals, health systems, physician group practices, and home health providers. Before joining Ballard Spahr, John served as the Chief Legal Officer of a health care startup company focused on providing pharmaceutical services to patients in the Southeast. His unique transactional experiences allows him to provide practical and creative business solutions to clients in the health care industry and beyond.

- Represent a national provider of home health care and hospice services in connection with the development and execution of their strategic growth initiatives. Represented client in connection with a series of bolt-on strategic growth transactions as well as joint venture arrangements with hospitals and health systems.
- Represented a private-equity backed health care company providing comprehensive in-home health risk assessment services in the $225 million sale of its business to a private-equity purchaser
- Advised a national clinical laboratory company in connection with the acquisition of a clinical laboratory services company based in a state with "corporate practice of medicine" prohibitions
