Ballard Spahr Names Dameon Rivers as Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow

February 19, 2019

Ballard Spahr Partner Dameon M. Rivers will participate in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) as part of its 2019 class of Fellows, a program created to identify, train, and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.

Mr. Rivers, a real estate finance attorney, is based in Ballard Spahr's Washington, D.C., office. He counsels lenders on construction and permanent finance transactions involving market rate housing, affordable housing, charter schools, and senior housing facilities.

"Dameon is a dynamic young partner with much to offer," said firm Chair Mark S. Stewart. "His selection for this fellowship is a well-deserved honor and I know that he will make the most of it."

According to LCLD President Robert J. Grey, Jr., the LCLD Fellows Program offers participants "a yearlong, in-depth program devoted to relationship-building, in-person training, peer-group projects, and extensive contact with LCLD's top leadership and the best teachers in the business."

Ballard Spahr long has been dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion internally and in the legal profession at large. In 2018, the firm ranked as one of the top 10 law firms of its size for minority lawyers by Law360's Diversity Snapshot. It sponsors an affinity group for diverse lawyers, which hosts yearly workshops on resume-writing and interviewing skills for first-year diverse law students, sponsors diversity fellowships to attract and recruit diverse law students, and organizes diverse lawyer networking events.

Founded in 2009, LCLD is a growing organization of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession. The LCLD Fellows Program, which has trained more than 1,600 mid-career attorneys since 2011, is one of LCLD's most important initiatives.
