Matthew Saunig provides regulatory and transactional advice for clients on a variety of issues involving state and federal consumer finance laws. He is experienced in counseling mortgage companies, servicers, consumer finance companies, financial institutions, debt collectors, and real estate brokers on compliance issues.

Mr. Saunig regularly navigates clients through state and federal licensing and approval processes, including those related to stock and asset acquisitions. He has experience with the federal SAFE Act and its state counterparts and has counseled clients on compliance with those requirements. Mr. Saunig also counsels clients on laws regarding advertising, disclosures, loss mitigation, and permissible fees. He frequently prepares multistate regulatory surveys and analyses on an array of residential and commercial mortgage lending, brokering, and servicing matters.

Representative Matters

  • Assisted with the acquisition of a national mortgage servicer and debt collector; obtained required approvals from state and federal regulators for the transaction 
  • Advised a national bank on the licensing of affiliated mortgage broker/lender companies; provided extensive reviews of applicable broker/lender laws for states where the new entities would be doing business 
  • Prepared a review of state licensing obligations for a nationwide commercial mortgage lender/servicer 
  • Managed a nationwide real estate broker licensing project in connection with the asset purchase of a brokerage company
