Wayne H. Hykan is a partner in the Real Estate Department, contact partner for the Tax Credits Group, and a member of the Housing, P3/Infrastructure, and Real Estate Finance Groups, as well as the Distressed Real Estate Initiative. He focuses his practice on real estate and finance transactions, especially those involving affordable housing, mixed-use development, and community development.
Mr. Hykan has represented developers, commercial lenders, and investors in real estate finance projects, including mezzanine debt, tax-exempt financing, and public/private partnerships involving Low Income Housing Tax Credits. His practice extends to advising clients in other matters related to the affordable housing industry, such as environmental issues, workouts, bond financing, and HOPE VI financing.
Representative Matters
- Represented the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on revitalization of portfolio of over 3,000 units of public housing using federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits and tax-exempt bonds
- Represented tax credit investor in the financing of renovation of historic bank building in downtown New Orleans using federal and state historic tax credits, federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and CDBG funds
- Represented affordable housing developer in connection with corporate financing from a major investment bank
- Represented developer in connection with historic redevelopment of hotel in downtown Baltimore
- Represented public housing authority in financing high-performance building improvements for public housing using energy performance contracts, tax-exempt bonds, and federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits
