Ballard Spahr recently advised Phoenix Rising FC, a professional soccer team, on the acquisition of FC Tucson, a minor league soccer team. Partner Travis J. Leach led the firm's legal team.

Founded in 2014 as Arizona United Soccer Club, Phoenix Rising FC is a team in the United Soccer League. FC Tucson was established in 2010 and, in the six years it has been playing in the Premier Development League, has established itself as a minor league powerhouse. Effective immediately, Phoenix Rising FC will run FC Tucson as an affiliate.

Mr. Leach, based in Ballard Spahr's Phoenix office, focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions work and also serves as Co-Practice Leader of the firm's Sports Practice. Earlier this year, he advised Phoenix Rising FC in its bid to gain one of the four expansion team franchises to be awarded by Major League Soccer. He previously advised BBS Capital in the acquisition of Arizona United Soccer Club, as Phoenix Rising FC was known until 2016.

Philadelphia-based Partner Saba Ashraf, who co-leads the firm's Tax Group, and Phoenix-based Associate Chloe J. Steadman also advised Phoenix Rising FC in this matter.
