Ballard Spahr will host its second annual Philly VIP/LawWorks legal clinic to provide local small business owners with free legal advice on Monday, January 20. The event is part of the firm’s annual Day of Service celebration held in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.

The clinic offers micro-entrepreneurs the opportunity to get pro bono advice on legal issues affecting small businesses, such as employment regulations, leases, and tax issues. Fifty attorneys from Ballard Spahr and the in-house legal departments of more than a dozen Philadelphia corporations are expected to volunteer.

“We are pleased to be able to offer free legal services to local small businesses as part of the firm’s tradition of community service on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day,” said Pro Bono Counsel Mary Gay Scanlon. “It’s an opportunity to use our training to serve the legal needs of entrepreneurs and small businesses, which are so important to our region’s economy.”

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at Ballard Spahr’s Philadelphia office at 1735 Market Street. The firm is also participating in other community service activities with organizations that address hunger, homelessness, and education issues. This year marks the firm’s ninth annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service.
