John J. Engel and Lauren B. Ziegler have joined the Baltimore office of the law firm Ballard Spahr as associates, Office Managing Partner Jon Laria announced. Mr. Engel joins the Real Estate Department, while Ms. Ziegler is a member of the Business and Finance Department.

Mr. Engel comes to Ballard Spahr from Richards, Layton & Finger in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was an associate in the firm’s real estate group. He has represented lenders, borrowers, and developers. Mr. Engel graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Wake Forest, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Ms. Ziegler graduated second in her class from the University of Baltimore School of Law. Before joining Ballard Spahr, she was an intern for Judge Ellen Hollander of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals (now a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maryland) and a paralegal at Continental Realty. Ms. Ziegler graduated summa cum laude from McDaniel College and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
