Ethan B. Minkin, whose practice focuses on bankruptcy, receiverships, and creditors' rights matters, has joined Ballard Spahr's Phoenix office as a partner in the Litigation Department, Ballard Spahr Chair Arthur Makadon announced today.
"We expect Ethan's solid knowledge of general bankruptcy to prove invaluable in our efforts to further develop that practice in our Western offices," Mr. Makadon said. "His work gets rave reviews, and we are fortunate to have him join us."
Mr. Minkin has represented debtors and creditors, both individuals and companies, in bankruptcy proceedings. He also counsels clients on securitizations and transactional work and has experience in health care law.
"Ethan is a pivotal addition to this office," said Steve Savage, managing partner of the Phoenix office. "His experience with receiverships and in loan workouts, and with banking and financial institutions, will strengthen our service to clients in the area of distressed real estate."
Before joining Ballard Spahr, Mr. Minkin was a partner in the Scottsdale office of Kutak Rock LLP. From 1999 to 2003 and 2006 to 2007, he was with Snell & Wilmer. While at Kutak Rock and Snell & Wilmer, Mr. Minkin was lent to one of the largest financial institutions in the United States to assist its special servicing department. He also worked for Schaller Anderson (2003-2006), where he served as primary counsel for the company's behavioral health subsidiaries, and provided legal support for operations, risk management, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions. Schaller Anderson was acquired by Aetna in 2007.
Mr. Minkin is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and holds a master of science in public health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He earned his B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.
"I look forward to helping Ballard Spahr raise the profile of its bankruptcy practice in the West," Mr. Minkin said. "Another plus for me is the firm's national platform, which includes a strong East Coast presence. That provides me with the resources to build a national practice."
