Corey Field, a lawyer in the Intellectual Property Department of Ballard Spahr in the firm's Los Angeles office, has been named President of The Copyright Society of the U.S.A. He will serve a two-year term.
Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Field was an executive in the international music-publishing industry. He speaks nationwide on copyright law and entertainment-related topics, including as a television commentator, and is published in scholarly journals and trade publications.
The Copyright Society of the U.S.A., based in New York City, is the nation's leading organization for the copyright bar. Its members include copyright lawyers and business professionals in publishing, media, television, film, music, software, and the Internet. It works to advance understanding of copyright law and related rights through its 10 member chapters and publication of the Journal of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A.
"Corey is an artist as well as an attorney, and that combination makes him well suited to lead The Copyright Society," said William H. Needle, Chair of the Intellectual Property Department at Ballard Spahr. "We are proud to see him at the helm and congratulate the Society on his selection."
Mr. Field concentrates his practice in copyright and entertainment law, including copyright litigation, licensing, and registration; trademark registration and litigation; and media law, such as advertising law, FTC compliance, and the right of publicity. He has also litigated design and utility patents.
In addition to its intellectual property, entertainment, media, and litigation practices, Ballard Spahr's Los Angeles office represents institutional and individual investors with real estate portfolios. The office also provides labor and employment counsel, including litigation services, to a variety of industries and maintains a bankruptcy practice.
