The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral is seeking to demolish two historic buildings (its own parish houses) in the 3800 block of Chestnut Street and build a 25-story apartment tower on the site—and the Philadelphia Historical Commission can’t decide whether to allow the project.
Ballard Spahr real estate partner Neil Sklaroff, in representing the cathedral, has argued that demolition is in the best interest of the public, as redevelopment will be the result. Also, funds from the private development are slated for the repair and preservation of the cathedral.
