Tempe’s tallest towers are going to be turned into luxury apartments. To close the sale of the $135 million property, the buyer and seller had to contend with five bankruptcies, angry investors, 29 companies that filed liens on the project for unpaid work, two wary title companies, and countless lawsuits. Kent Chantung, director of development for the buyer, credits Ballard Spahr partner Ethan Minkin with guiding him through the legal twists and turns. “Ethan explained…it could be impossible,” said Mr. Chantung of the Zaremba Group’s Scottsdale office. “But this was an opportunity to complete a project in the center of the Valley and in the heart of Tempe.”
