The Archdiocese of Philadelphia suspended 21 priests from active ministry in the single most sweeping suspension since the Roman Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal began. The action follows a grand jury report accusing the Archdiocese of allowing priests with credible accusations against them to stay in their posts. Gina Maisto Smith, of Ballard Spahr’s Corporate and Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice, is conducting the investigation on behalf of the Archdiocese.
