A dispute between the City of Philadelphia's Redevelopment Authority (RDA) and the owner of two prime acres on Vine Street is delaying the sale of the property to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which wants to build a $68 million Mormon Temple on the site. City officials criticized the RDA for clamping down on developers it deemed "slow moving" just as the real estate market began to falter. Michael Sklaroff, chair of Ballard Spahr's Real Estate department and an attorney for the developer, says the temple would be "a wonderful, unexpected benefit to the city" that would generate jobs and attract visitors.
