Protecting military servicemembers and their families remains a major focus of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Newly authorized to enforce the Military Lending Act (MLA), the CFPB has put payday and title lenders on notice that it plans to use its supervisory and enforcement authority to scrutinize lenders for MLA compliance. In addition, the CFPB continues to examine banks and nonbanks for compliance with the requirements of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) in all types of consumer lending and has identified SCRA compliance as an enforcement priority.

In this webinar, we will discuss recent developments pertaining to the MLA and SCRA and the effects of these laws on the financial services industry. The topics our presenters will cover include:

  • Protections provided by the MLA and SCRA
  • Recent changes to the MLA, including the CFPB's new MLA enforcement authority and new civil liability
  • Possible expansion of MLA coverage
  • CFPB examiner guidelines on MLA compliance
  • Best practices for MLA and SCRA compliance
