In 1981, Ballard Spahr became one of the first national law firms to establish an office in Denver. That was the beginning of a western expansion that has since seen the firm open offices in San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas.
Our Denver lawyers represent clients in real estate development and finance, including resort and hotel projects in North America for the past 30 years and more recently in Europe and Mexico. Our commercial litigation practice is recognized for its handling of high-stakes cases, including breach of fiduciary claims, Internet piracy, and white collar defense, as well as government and corporate investigations. We handle franchise disputes and bankruptcy, reorganization, and capital recovery matters.
In 2009, we augmented the Denver office's historically strong transactional practice with the addition of a group led by one of the region's top corporate attorneys, John Ruppert, and franchise law powerhouse Kim McCullough. Our lawyers represent clients in M&A, private equity, and securities transactions, including related tax components.
Pro bono service is a hallmark of the firm, and the Denver attorneys devote numerous hours to pro bono cases every year. Attorneys and staff in Denver support a number of deserving causes, including nonprofits that assist low-income families and children.
The firm's Denver office was recognized by the Colorado Supreme Court for its commitment to pro bono legal service in 2012. The Colorado Supreme Court's Pro Bono Challenge asks law firms to commit to an annual goal of providing an average of 50 hours of pro bono legal services by their Colorado-licensed attorneys on an annual basis, with the majority of those hours benefiting low-income clients.
