William A. Slaughter chairs the Litigation Department and is a member of the Bankruptcy, Reorganization and Capital Recovery Group; Communications Group; Complex Commercial Litigation Group; Corporate and Government Investigations and White Collar Defense Group; and Economic Stabilization and Recovery Initiative.
Mr. Slaughter manages an insolvency practice involving financially troubled companies in telecommunications, real estate development and syndication, health care, insurance, and manufacturing, and companies burdened with the defense of mass tort litigation. He has 25 years of experience in bankruptcy and workouts, including the representation of banks and other financial institutions, bondholders and bond indenture trustees, creditors' committees, shareholder groups, acquirers of troubled companies or their assets, and corporate debtors engaged in a wide variety of business and investment activities. He also represents banks, thrifts, insurance companies, and other lending institutions in workout, collection, asset recovery, and bankruptcy matters.
Mr. Slaughter also maintains an active commercial litigation practice, concentrating on the defense of public companies in securities litigation, the defense of banks and other financial institutions in lender liability cases, insurance coverage litigation, and the defense of employers in class action litigation under ERISA.

- Represented Comcast Corporation in connection with its acquisition of the cable television assets of the bankrupt Adelphia Communications Corp.
- Successfully defended a class action challenging the cash balance pension plan of PNC Financial Services Group as violative of the age discrimination provisions of ERISA
- Represented Rite Aid Corporation in shareholder litigation and government investigations arising out of a major accounting restatement
