Sara V. Ransom is an associate in the Litigation Department and a member of the Commercial Litigation, Energy and Project Finance, Environment and Natural Resources, and Product Liability and Mass Tort Groups. Ms. Ransom has represented diverse clients, both plaintiffs and defendants, in a variety of industries throughout the United States in cases involving claims of breach of contract, trademark infringement, unfair competition, fraud, and a variety of other business torts. Her experience includes representing clients involved in real estate disputes, employment disputes, products liability cases, toxic tort cases, securities regulation matters, and state regulatory compliance disputes. Ms. Ransom also has experience with civil and criminal appellate work.  

Ms. Ransom has argued on behalf of clients in federal and state courts, has extensive trial and deposition experience, and has successfully handled a wide variety of issues in motion practice. Her experience includes federal and state court trials and alternative dispute resolution for complex commercial matters involving multiple parties.

Ms. Ransom clerked for an Arizona law firm, focusing on medical malpractice defense and breach of contract disputes.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained a unanimous jury verdict and complete recovery of a company's requested damages on all counterclaims, including fraud, unjust enrichment, and breach of contract, after the client, which had been victimized by an employee's fraudulent kickback scheme with a former vendor, was sued by the former vendor for satisfaction of unpaid invoices
  • Represented a large Internet domain registration and Web hosting company on a variety of issues, including successfully resolving a trademark infringement and unfair competition case in the client’s favor in excess of the full amount of demand and securing a permanent injunction against the opposing party in federal court
  • Represented the largest dairy cooperative in Arizona as a member of the trial team that secured a favorable jury verdict and award of attorneys' fees, then prosecuted the appeal that upheld the verdict and fee award
  • Prevailed against a temporary restraining order brought by a company seeking funds that rightfully belonged to hundreds of consumers that the company had defrauded
  • Successfully defended one of the nation's largest auto parts suppliers in multimillion-dollar product liability matters in federal and state court
  • Obtained a unanimous jury verdict and full award of attorneys' fees on behalf of a Fortune 500 company in a commercial landlord/tenant dispute
  • Defended a former lead smelter and mining operation against multimillion-dollar indemnity and contribution claims arising out of allegations of exposure to lead ore concentrate, including claims for extensive property remediation costs
  • Obtained dismissal of a federal income tax recovery lawsuit and negotiated the payment of client's attorneys' fees
  • Advised and represented companies on administrative law matters, including defending clients against allegations of liquor license violations and allegations of failure to comply with SEC regulations
  • Obtained an order of child support, past support, and attorneys' fees at an evidentiary hearing on behalf of a domestic-violence victim

Pro Bono Experience

Ms. Ransom maintains an active pro bono practice, which includes representation of domestic-violence victims seeking assistance in child support and custody matters.
