Arthur Makadon is Chair of the firm. He maintains an active litigation practice focusing on white collar criminal and complex commercial matters. Before joining Ballard Spahr, Mr. Makadon was Chief Assistant District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia.
In recent years, Mr. Makadon has represented public officials and publicly traded corporations in grand jury matters and other government investigations; defended financial institutions for alleged violations under the securities, antitrust, ERISA, and consumer protection laws; and defended a major accounting firm for alleged malpractice related to the collapse of an insurance company.
During his career, he has tried more than 30 jury trials to verdict and an equal number of nonjury trials, including arbitrations. Mr. Makadon is engaged for appellate work throughout the country and in high-profile matters generally. He also has counseled and represented corporations and special committees in connection with corporate governance.
