Ballard Spahr reached a milestone in its Western expansion in 2007 when a group of prominent Los Angeles real estate attorneys opened the firm's first West Coast office.
Within a year, we added a sophisticated labor and employment practice, followed by a commercial litigation practice. We then established a foothold in intellectual property, which evolved into our media and entertainment IP practice, led by the current President of The Copyright Society of the U.S.A.
Our real estate attorneys have a wealth of experience in commercial and industrial real estate development and registration of residential and resort products, and the representation of institutional and individual investors with real estate portfolios engaged in acquisitions, sales, exchanges, and leasing. The labor and employment group advises on and litigates all aspects of employment law. In the entertainment area, we represent clients in the music, television, film, online media, and publishing industries.
Pro bono service is a hallmark of the firm, and the Los Angeles attorneys devote hundreds of hours to pro bono cases every year. Attorneys and staff in Los Angeles support a number of worthy causes, including homeless prevention and youth education. The Los Angeles Business Journal named Ballard Spahr to its 2008 list of "Best Places to Work."
