In this webinar, we will present a unique view of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's amicus program from both industry and consumer perspectives. Attorneys from Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group will be joined on a panel by a very special guest, Deepak Gupta. Mr. Gupta argued the Concepcion case for the consumers before the U.S. Supreme Court while working for Public Citizen, then joined the CFPB's enforcement division in 2011, where he served as an architect of the bureau's amicus program. He has since started his own law firm, Gupta Beck, which specializes in representing consumers in high-stakes appellate matters.

Our panel will discuss the CFPB's amicus program, highlighting the factors likely to influence its selection of cases and the potential impact on the parties of the CFPB's decision to participate in a case. We will also analyze the CFPB's amicus briefs thus far, looking at the validity of the bureau's positions and the effectiveness of its efforts in shaping the law.
